For most of its existence, Piaget has operated quietly behind the proverbial horological curtain, producing some of the most impressively thin mechanical movements in Switzerland and supplying them to numerous other maisons.
But when the Piaget name was displayed on the dial, the brand utilized a lavish style embodied by a group of luxurious, design-forward creations. These pieces wre representative of the American dream in the 1960s and '70s as embodied by those wore them — Andy Warhol, Roger Moore, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elvis Presley, and many more.
This particular Piaget, a Reference 15562 C 701, hails from that exact era. The beauty of this piece starts with its case — a 32mm 18k yellow gold ridged head mated to an integrated, matching ridged yellow gold bracelet. Its champagne dial continues the textured theme and features a date aperture at 12 o’clock, a day aperture at 6 o’clock, a matching ‘dauphine’ handset and the stylized Piaget signature is positioned towards the top of the dial. Unlike the contemporary Polo 79 revival piece that uses an automatic movement, this vintage example uses a quartz calibre and offers up an intriguing value proposition.
Piaget is certainly hot right now, and there's no signs of it cooling down. Especially when you consider that the storied manufacture plans to play the hits.
